Wood-Fired Heating

Wakefield Wood Tubs use Chofu stoves as a wood-fired heat source. They are a precision-built, high-efficiency water heaters designed specifically for hot tubs. They circulate water using the principal of “thermo-siphon” – the pumping action created by rising hot water – eliminating the need for a circulating pump or electricity. This allows a soaking tub to be used in a variety of settings including remote locations.

Electric Heating

Electric heaters are the most common option for hot tub applications. Electrically heated hot tubs are the most hassle-free option, allowing for the most design flexibility. Electricity can power jets, LED lights, speakers – the options are many.

Often the heating of a tub is part of a “spa pack”, which controls the circulation rate of water, water temperature, bubbles, sanitizing systems, wi-fi controls, LED lights and and even music (if requested). Spa packs allow you to control many aspects of your tub remotely, manipulating its temperature, pump speed, and chemical levels in anticipation of using it.

Most applications require room on an existing electrical panel for a 50 amp breaker and qualified electrician can install a GFCI shut-off spa receptacle on wall beside your hot tub. This will run all of the components on your electrically heated tub.

Alternate Heating Methods

Solar heat is a possible supplemental heat source, using solar thermal panels working with a heat exchanger.
Solar heat would still require electricity as it integrates pumps and a central control system with the solar units.

Natural gas or propane heaters are also available for those who are unable to access electric heat. These heaters have separate venting and gas piping requirements that may limit their use somewhat. This heat source also requires a spa pack to integrate with the pumps and temperature controls etc.
