It has been suggested by others that a person with a woodworking background shouldn’t even think about building her/his own cedar hot tub. It’s too difficult to pull off, you won’t find the hot tub grade of cedar, never mind all of the other hard-to-find items that are mandatory for building a cedar hot tub. You’ll never be able to avoid the countless mistakes that lead to leaks and other problems, or you won’t be able to figure out how to connect the various components in the right sequence so that everything works properly…
Well, that’s no longer true. Here at Wakefield Wood Tubs, we believe that the opportunity should be made available to all who choose it.
You can take advantage of our experience, our sourcing of cedar, stainless banding, and of all other required parts, along with our tips and tricks to successfully build your own cedar hot tub from the comfort of your own home woodworking shop.
It’s true that building a cedar hot tub is very challenging, and without much trial and error, you will become frustrated and very likely just quit.
But, if you have a simple, step-by-step guide, specific tips on what to do, what to avoid, and how to put it all together, you’ll be able to leverage your skills and your tools to build a beautiful, long-lasting home appliance that will give you great satisfaction and thrill your family when they slip in for the first time.
If you’re ready to go for it, we’ll sell you the required amount of hot tub-grade white cedar boards. Not just that, but we’ll include both of the cove and the bead router bits that you’ll need to create the required profiles of your staves.
We’ll send out enough stainless steel banding material to create three steel bands for your hot tub.
We’ll ship you a complete, insulated, marine-grade vinyl cover; a cover that fulfills all municipal pool enclosure by-law permit requirements, has locking tabs to keep small children out, and that can be ordered in over 10 colour choices.
We’ll sell you a spa controller (with accompanying keypad), a circulating pump, and an in-line canister filter, along with all accompanying fittings and glue, so that you can put all of the pieces together in their correct sequence. We’ve even included a water balancing kit- a critical component for ensuring that the water stays clean, doesn’t become cloudy or smelly, and lasts months before needing to be changed.
We’ll put together the high-flow suction drains (very important to avoid severe injury or drowning) along with the cedar hot tub-compatible jets, with adjustable gimbals, and send all of it to your front door.
We’ll send a link to various videos instructing you on how to go about building your hot tub, in a step-by-step format. A suggested tools list (and explanation of their value to your process) will be included as well.
Also, you’ll be able to call or email with your specific questions in case you get stuck or are not succeeding, and we’ll talk you through it.
With this combination of materials, components, timely advice and instruction, it actually is possible (and realistic) for any home wood worker to build their own cedar hot tub. Build it within weeks, not months or years. You’ll be ready to install your creation in its permanent location this spring.
If you’re ready to buy, go to our Tub Shop page and look up the Self-Starter Kit. You can choose between a small (5 foot diameter floor) hot tub, which can seat between 2 and 3 people, or large hot tub (6 foot diameter floor which can fit 4-6 people). Choose your cover colour and size, and place your order.
We’ll put together your order and ship it out directly, as all of the required parts are available and in stock. No COVID-19-related delays.
